For someone who works for tips please do not EVER tip less than 10 percent. 90% of the time the guy you’re tipping isn’t the problem.
Likewise 90% of the time the guy you’re tipping isnt responsible for the whole experience and therefore wheres the “chefs” tip for example? all the waiter does is carry a plate from one side of the room to another…take the rough with the smooth fella! if you get a tip do you think of sharing it with the person who cleaned the tables, the person who washed the dishes…probably not! (using food industry as a standard since that’s the most likely to be tipped).
But at most places waitresses make far below minimum wage with the expectation of making tips. The chefs make well above minimum wage because they aren’t expected to be tipped.
That’s reasonable in some states, but in others servers are still making at least and often above minimum wage. So if I’m working for the same or less hourly pay as them, why do I have to give them extra money out of pocket? Their job isn’t any harder than most retail jobs.
